Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Suk Dayv and Akrur are awake. Hanuman, with his tail, is awake.

Shiva is awake, serving at the feet of the One. And Namdev and Jaidev are awake, even in this dark age.

To be awake is to stay aware and loving even when times are hard.
The deeper layer

Some people stay wide awake, even in the hardest times. Jaagai sukday-o ar akoor — Suk Dayv and Akrur are awake. Hanuman, the faithful helper of Ram, is awake. Shiva is awake, serving at the One's feet. Kal jaagay naamaa jaidayv — Naam Dayv and Jai Dayv are awake even in kal, this hard age. Naam Dayv and Jai Dayv were bhagats, devoted singers whose songs are in the Guru Granth Sahib.

Being jaagai, awake, means being fully aware of the One. Think of a lifeguard at a busy pool. Everyone else is splashing, but the lifeguard keeps watching. These people were awake like that, and with love.

A Question to Sit With

Who is someone you know who stays kind and aware even when things get tough?
