Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Kabir says: think about doing some good.
In the end the gambler leaves, brushing off two empty hands.
Goodness is the one thing you get to keep — so gather some today.
Goodness is worth thinking about now, because a life spent gambling for more ends with empty hands.
Kahi kabeer kichh gun beechaar: Kabir says, think about some goodness. Gun means virtue, goodness. Chalay ju-aaree du-ay hath jhaar: the gambler leaves dusting off both hands, with nothing in them. A life lived only as a bet for more ends with nothing held. The good you do travels with you, the way gold never can.
A Question to Sit With
What is one good thing you could do this week that no one could ever take from you?
