If They Call Me Crazy, I'm Still Yours

ਜਉ ਹਉ ਬਉਰਾ ਤਉ ਰਾਮ ਤੋਰਾ ॥
ja-o ha-o ba-uraa ta-o raam toraa.

log maram kah jaanai moraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
How can people know my secret? ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

If I am mad, then I am Yours, O One.

How could people know my secret?

Let them call it crazy — a true heart carries a secret the crowd can't see.
The deeper layer

Even if the world calls you mad, you can belong wholly to the One.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Ja-o ha-o ba-uraa ta-o raam toraa: if I'm mad, then I'm Yours. Ba-uraa is the crowd's word for someone in love with the One. Log maram kah jaanai moraa: how would people know my maram, my secret? Kabir wears the crowd's mockery as a badge. The inner life cannot be seen from outside, and what looks like foolishness may be the deepest belonging.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever loved or cared about something so much that others didn't get it? Was it worth it anyway?
