In plain words

The six celibate sages are bound to Maya.

So are the nine masters of yoga, and the sun and the moon.

Those who live by hard discipline, and the wise Rishis, are asleep in Maya.

Death and the five troublemakers inside us live in Maya too.

Nothing in the whole world stands entirely outside the pull of wanting.
The deeper layer

The pull of maya reaches even the sun and the moon.

Chhi-a jatee — the six jatee, sages who stayed unmarried. Navai naath — the nine naath, masters of yoga. Sooraj ar chandaa — the sun and the moon. Tapay rakheesar — the rishis, wise seers who lived by strict discipline. Kabir names them all with respect, and shows every one of them inside maya.

Maa-i-aa meh kaal ar panch dootaa — kaal means time, and death that comes with time. The panch doot are the five inner troublemakers: wanting too much, anger, greed, clinging, and pride. They live inside maya too. Think of a snow globe. Everything in it, big or small, swirls in the same water.

A Question to Sit With

What are the restless urges you notice most often in yourself?
