The Rare And Steady Support

ਬਿਖਿਆ ਕਾ ਸਭੁ ਧੰਧੁ ਪਸਾਰੁ ॥

All of his conflicts are extensions of his corruption.

How rare is that person who takes the Naam as his Support. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

All these busy tangles spread out from the world's poison pull.

How rare is the one who takes the Naam as their support.

In the middle of all the chasing, one steady thing is enough.
The deeper layer

Life's busy tangles grow from chasing the world; rare is the one who rests on the Naam.

This is the pause line, the rahaa-o, the center of the shabad.

Bikhi-aa literally means poison. Here it means maa-i-aa, the pull of the world. It is the chasing after things that never quite satisfy. All our dhandh, our busy tangles, spread out from that chasing.

Think of scrolling a video app. One more video, then one more. An hour goes by, and you don't feel any fuller.

Virlai keeno naam adhaar — rare is the one who makes the Naam their support. Adhaar means the thing everything rests on. In the middle of all that rushing, the Naam is the still center. The whole shabad points to it.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you chase that never quite fills you up?
