Words That Come Back Around

nindak kaa kahi-aa ko-ay na maanai.
No one belives what the slanderer says.
nindak jhooth bol pachhutaanay.
The slanderer tells lies, and later regrets and repents.
haath pachhoreh sir Dharan lagaahi.
He wrings his hands, and hits his head against the ground.
nindak ka-o da-ee chhodai naahi. ||2||
The Lord does not forgive the slanderer. ||2||

In plain words

No one believes what the one who speaks badly of others says.

They tell lies, and later they are sorry.

They wring their hands and sink down to the ground in sorrow.

The One does not let the slanderer off.

Lies about others come back as regret.
The deeper layer

Lies about others leave you unbelieved and full of regret.

Nindak kaa kahi-aa ko-ay na maanai: no one believes the slanderer. Jhooth bol pachhutaanay: they lie, and later they regret it. Haath pachhoreh sir dharan lagaahi: they wring their hands and bow their head to the ground, the way people do in deep sorrow.

Nindak ka-o da-ee chhodai naahi: the One does not let the slanderer off. Lies told about others leave a mark that does not wash away by itself.

A Question to Sit With

If you said something unkind, what would help you make it right again?
