Come along with me, dear friends — let's remember the One together.
Let's learn from what is wise and true, and the fear of endings loses its sting.
Walking that road together, we find we're welcomed and honored where we truly belong.
When we keep company with loving people, the puffed-up, me-first feeling quietly melts, and we're set free.
The Chhant becomes an invitation: aao milho sajanaa — "come, join me, my friends." Guru Arjan's spiritual life is communal and warm, not solitary; the path is walked together. "Clear away the Path of Death" (jam pantha) is rendered as fear losing its sting — the memento mori turned toward reassurance rather than dread. The engine of transformation is again saadh sangat, holy company, which "eradicates self-conceit, egotism and attachment." Notice the verbs are plural: let's worship, let's serve, we obtain honor. For a child, the lesson is that goodness is something you do with others — you invite your friends along, and you grow lighter together.
Who would you invite to come along with you toward something good?
