har jan sayvak say har taaray ham nirgun raakh upmaa.
The humble servants of the Lord are saved by the Lord; I am worthless - it is Your glory to save me.
tujh bin avar na ko-ee mayray thaakur har japee-ai vaday karammaa. ||2||
I have no other than You, O my Lord and Master; I meditate on the Lord, by my good karma. ||2||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The One saves those who serve; I have nothing to boast of, so it will be Your kindness alone that lifts me.
There is no one else for me but You, my One. To hold the One in mind at all is itself a piece of good fortune.
When you have no one to rely on but the One, that turns out to be enough.
Ham nirgun raakh upmaa — I am without merit, so saving me is Your glory — turns empty hands into trust: the rescue reflects the rescuer, not the rescued. Having 'no other' is not lonely here but freeing.
