The Commentary

Guru Nanak opens the raag by making the whole of it turn on nearness: through the Guru's Word the mind quiets and rests in the One (verse 1). The Rahao is the ache underneath — how can I live without seeing You? The verses answer it: with every breath and every bite I keep looking; the unspeakable gets spoken only when ego melts; and the Name, not gathered wealth, is what a life is really made of.
