In plain words

I carry water on my head, and with my hands I wash the feet of the Guru's people.

A hundred thousand times I would give myself for them; just seeing them, I come alive.

Serving people you admire can make you feel more alive, not less.
The deeper layer

Being near holy people brings such joy that serving them feels like a gift.

Jal dhova-o ih sees kar, pag pakhlaava-o — I carry water on my head, and with my hands I wash their feet. In the old days, washing a guest's feet was a humble, loving way to welcome them.

Baar jaa-o lakh bayree-aa — thousands of times I would give myself for them. Daras paykh jeevaava-o — just seeing them, I come alive. Daras, or darshan, means a blessed sight.

This humility is full of gladness, not sadness. Think of how happy you feel carrying snacks for your grandparents when they visit. It does not make you small. It makes you glow.

A Question to Sit With

Who do you admire so much you would happily help them with anything?
