In plain words

You make everything happen, You are the cause behind every cause — so I come and rest in Your shelter.

Nanak says: day and night I remember You, and again and again I give my whole heart in thanks.

Keeping something good in mind, day and night, steadies the whole day.
The deeper layer

The One's shelter is a place to rest, and a reason to say thank you.

Karan kaaran samrath parabh means the One is all-powerful, the cause behind every cause. Tayree sarnaa-ee means "I come to Your shelter." Think of running in from the rain to a warm kitchen at home.

The second line is about never stopping. Dinas rain naanak japai: day and night, Nanak remembers the One. Sad sad bal jaa-ee: again and again, he gives his whole heart in thanks. The shabad ends with remembering that goes on and on.

A Question to Sit With

What could you gently keep in mind from morning to night?
