Come, O Saints, and join together, O my Siblings of Destiny; let us tell the Stories of the Lord, Har, Har.
har har naam bohith hai kaljug khayvat gur sabad tarahu. ||1||
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the boat in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga; the Word of the Guru's Shabad is the boatman to ferry us across. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Come, friends, gather close — let us tell each other the stories of the One.

In a time when things feel hard to cross, the Name is the boat, and the Guru's word is the boatman who rows us all safely over.

We cross over together, in one boat — the stories of the One are best shared.
The deeper layer

Aavhu sant milhu — come together, companions — makes the crossing communal. The bohith (boat) and khayvat (boatman) image says no one rows alone; the whole boat of friends is ferried by the Word.

A Question to Sit With

Who are the friends you would want in the boat with you when things get hard?
