Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
O my mind, speak the glorious qualities of the One out loud.
As it was always written for you, sing the One's praises. Join the Sangat, and cross the wide water together.
Singing together, we carry each other across.
Sing the One's praises together, and the Sangat carries everyone across.
This is the Rahao. Mil sangat paar parahu — join the Sangat and cross — repeats the shabad's insistence on the shared path: praise sung together (keertan) is itself the ferry.
Sangat means the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One. Everyone rides in the same boat, and every voice helps it along.
A Question to Sit With
When has singing or cheering together with others made you feel stronger than doing it alone?
