In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

Know this: the Naam of the One takes sorrow away.

People the world had completely given up on remembered the One and were set free. Let your heart know it.

No one is ever too far gone for a fresh start.
The deeper layer

The Naam lifts sorrow, and it has changed even lives that others had given up on.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line. It is the center of the shabad. This shabad is by Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Guru.

Dukh hartaa har naam pachhaano — know that the One's Name takes sorrow away. Hartaa means the one who removes.

Then come two names from old stories, Ajaamal and Ganikaa. Both had lives that had gone badly wrong. People had given up on them. But they remembered the One, and their lives turned all the way around. Jee-a jaano — let your heart truly know this.

Think of an old bike everyone said to throw away. Someone patient fixes it, and it rides like new. No one is beyond turning toward the One.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever seen someone surprise everyone by changing for the better?
