God is All-powerful, above all; He is the perfect treasure of virtue. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One is my only support, so I have let go of every other hope.

The One is powerful above all, complete, a whole treasure of goodness.

Lean on the One, who can hold you up.
The deeper layer

Lean on the one support that holds. Ayk tayk govind kee — the Lord of the Universe is my only support. Govind is a name for the One who cares for all the world. Ti-aagee an aas — I have let go of all other hopes.

Think of leaning your whole weight on a strong wall instead of a wobbly chair.

Then the verse says why this support is safe. Sabh oopar samrath prabh pooran guntaas — God is all-powerful, above all, a full treasure of goodness. The shabad opens with trust placed in one place only.

A Question to Sit With

What is something steady you can lean on when things wobble?
