The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the Support of the humble servant who seeks God's Sanctuary.

parmaysar kaa aasraa santan man maahi. ||1|| rahaa-o.
In their minds, the Saints take the Support of the Transcendent Lord. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The Naam is the support of the Guru's people, who take shelter in the One.

The saints keep the support of the Highest One in their minds.

An inner anchor keeps you steady wherever you go.
The deeper layer

The Naam holds up everyone who takes shelter in the One. Here is the Rahao, the pause, the center of the shabad. Jan kaa naam adhaar hai — the Name is the support of the humble servant. Naam means the Name, the loving remembrance of the One. Adhaar means a base, something that holds you up.

Think of the anchor that keeps a boat steady when the waves come.

Parmaysar kaa aasraa santan man maahi — the saints keep the support of the Highest Lord in their minds. They carry it inside, wherever they go. The Name is a steadiness you keep within.

A Question to Sit With

What keeps you steady when everything around you is moving fast?
