In plain words

The One is the highest of the high, greater than anything you can imagine. And yet, amazingly, the One is right here beside you as your companion.

Nanak says: let me be the humblest helper of the helpers of Your helpers.

The greatest thing of all is also the one closest beside you.
The deeper layer

Two things hold together: the One is the highest of all, and also right beside you.

Oochay tay oochaa vadaa sabh sang barnayh means the One is called higher than the highest, the greatest, and the companion of everyone. It is a bit like the sky. It stretches far above you, yet its air is on your face every time you step outside.

Then comes a humble wish. Daas daas ko daasraa naanak kar layh means make Nanak the little servant of the servant of Your servants. Daas means servant. This is not about feeling small or sad. It is the joy of belonging, glad to be a helper of the helpers in a family of good people.

A Question to Sit With

Is it not wonderful when someone important still treats you like a friend?
