Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.
On the first day, begin here: there is one Source of everything, and nothing else is quite like it. It was never born and it never ends, and it belongs to no group, no rank, no caste -- it is above all of that.
You cannot photograph it or draw its shape. But when I searched and searched, I found it living inside every single heart, including my own.
I am grateful beyond words for anyone who sees it and helps me see it. By the Guru's grace, I have been given the highest place there is.
This is the opening day of the Thittee (the poem of the lunar days). ekam means the first day. The first day opens with the nature of the One, ahead of any ritual: amar ajonee -- deathless and unborn; jaat na jaalaa -- beyond caste, class, and entanglement, a quiet leveling that runs through the whole poem. agam agochar -- beyond reach and beyond grasp, yet found ghat ghat -- in each and every heart. The param pad (the highest state) is received by grace, not earned by the calendar.
Where have you noticed something that feels bigger than you, hidden inside ordinary things?
