Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Whoever sings this praise, and listens to it, and writes it down gathers every good fruit there is.

They lift up everyone connected to them and cross safely over life's wide water. The One's feet are the boat; in the Sangat they sing, and the One keeps their honor safe. Nanak says: I seek shelter at the One's door.

*Loving what is good lifts up everyone connected to you.*
The deeper layer

The closing verse. gun gaa-ay sun likh day-ay -- singing, hearing, and writing the praise together. kul samooh karat udhaar -- one is lifted, and so are all their people. har charan bohith -- the feet as boat. And the promise: this love spreads outward and carries many.

A Question to Sit With

How could loving something good make life better for the people around you too?
