Where the Treasures Come From

ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
bilaaval mehlaa 5.
Bilaaval, Fifth Mehl:
ਸ੍ਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sarab niDhaan pooran gurdayv. ||1|| rahaa-o.
All treasures come from the Perfect Divine Guru. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

All treasures come from the perfect Guru, the Giver of light.

The richest things you can have, like peace and courage, come from the Guru.
The deeper layer

Every treasure comes from the Guru.

It is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the one the whole shabad turns on. Sarab niDhaan pooran gurdayv — "all treasures come from the perfect Guru." Gurdayv means the Guru as a Giver of light.

These treasures are not coins in a bank vault. They are things like peace, courage and kindness. Nobody can steal them from your locker, and you cannot lose them in a move.

A Question to Sit With

What is a treasure you have that money could not buy?
