Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Free me from the endless round of beginnings and endings -- worn out, I have come and rested at Your door.

I hold on close, in the Sangat, and Your love feels sweet to me. Be kind, and fasten me to the very edge of Your robe, so I never drift away. Nanak says: I keep the Naam in mind.

*Hold on to what is good so you never drift away from it.*
The deeper layer

The opening verse. janam maran nivaar rendered as release from the round of beginnings and endings, kept free of death-fear. larh laa-ay -- attach me to the hem, an image of a child holding a parent's clothing so as not to be lost. naam dhi-aa-ay -- keeping the Name.

geh charan saadhoo sang -- holding on in the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One.
