ਕਰਿ ਬੰਦਨਾ ਲਖ ਬਾਰ ॥

Hundreds of thousands of times, I humbly bow to Him.

I have grown weary, and I have collapsed at God's Door.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਰਹੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਧੂਰਿ ॥
parabh karahu saaDhoo Dhoor.
O God, make me the dust of the feet of the Holy.
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਸਾ ਪੂਰਿ ॥੮॥੧॥
naanak mansaa poor. ||8||1||
Please fulfill this, Nanak's wish. ||8||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I bow again and again, countless times, and finally, worn out, I rest at the One's door.

Make me the dust under the feet of the holy people. Nanak says: that is my whole wish, so please let it come true.

*Sometimes the whole prayer is: let me stay near what is good.*
The deeper layer

The closing verse. thak pari-o prabh darbaar -- collapsing, weary, at the door. karahu saadhoo dhoor -- asking only to become the dust of the holy, the humblest of requests. mansaa poor -- 'fulfill this wish.' A long bow, and then trusting, tired rest.

A Question to Sit With

When you are worn out, where do you most want to rest?
