In plain words

When the One is kind to you,

you spend your time remembering the One, and the fear of time running out falls away.

When you rest in the One, time stops feeling like an enemy.
The deeper layer

This is the center of the shabad: when kindness rests on you, time stops feeling like an enemy.

It is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the one the whole shabad turns on. Jis oopar hovat da-i-aal — the person the One is kind to. Har simrat kaatai so kaal — that person passes their time remembering the One.

Kaal has two meanings: "time" and "death." So the line also says that remembering cuts through the fear of time running out. Think of the last minutes of a test, with the clock ticking loudly. Now picture a friend beside you saying, "You're okay." The clock is the same, but the fear is gone.

This comes as kindness received, not a prize earned.

A Question to Sit With

Do you ever feel like time is running out? What helps that feeling ease?
