Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The Perfect Guru has kept me safe.

The Guru has placed the Naam, sweet as amrit, in my heart, and the grime of lifetime after lifetime is washed away.

The heaviest things you carry can be set down all at once.
The deeper layer

The Guru keeps you safe, and the Naam washes old weight away.

This is the Rahao, the pause line at the centre of the shabad. Gur poorai mayree raakh la-ee — the Perfect Guru has kept me safe. Amrit naam riday meh deeno — the Naam, sweet and life-giving like amrit, is placed in the heart. Janam janam kee mail ga-ee — the dust of life after life is washed off. Think of a muddy football kit coming out of the wash clean and fresh, ready to wear again. This is about release and a fresh start.

A Question to Sit With

What is one old weight you would love to feel lift?
