Verse 2 of 3

Nothing Can Get At Me

ਨਿਵਰੇ ਦੂਤ ਦੁਸਟ ਬੈਰਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕਾ ਜਪਿਆ ਜਾਪੁ ॥
nivray doot dusat bairaa-ee gur pooray kaa japi-aa jaap.
The demons and wicked enemies are driven out, by meditating, and chanting the Chant of the Perfect Guru.
ਕਹਾ ਕਰੈ ਕੋਈ ਬੇਚਾਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਾ ਬਡ ਪਰਤਾਪੁ ॥੧॥
kahaa karai ko-ee baychaaraa parabh mayray kaa bad partaap. ||1||
What can any wretched creature do to me? The radiance of my God is gloriously great. ||1||

In plain words

The harmful pulls that used to push me around have been driven off, through the chant the Perfect Guru gave me.

What can anyone do to me now? The light of my God is that great.

Strength is leaning on something vast.
The deeper layer

Harmful pulls back off when you lean on the One's great light.

Nivray doot dusat bairaa-ee — the troublemakers and enemies are driven off. Read most kindly, they are the harmful impulses that unsettle us from inside. Gur pooray kaa japi-aa jaap — by repeating the Perfect Guru's chant. Kahaa karai ko-ee baychaaraa — what can any poor creature do? Parabh mayray kaa bad partaap — the radiance of my God is great. Think of switching on a light in a dark room; the shadows go without a fight.

A Question to Sit With

What harmful pull loses its grip when you hold something good close?
