Remember, Remember, Remember

Meditating, meditating, meditating in remembrance, I have found peace; I have enshrined His Lotus Feet within my mind.

taa kee saran pari-o naanak daas jaa tay oopar ko naahee. ||2||12||98||
Slave Nanak has entered His Sanctuary; there is none above Him. ||2||12||98||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Remembering, remembering, remembering — that is where the peace came from; I keep those gentle feet planted in my mind.

Nanak says: I, the servant, have stepped into the shelter of the One, and there is no one higher to run to.

The safest place is the one you keep returning to.
The deeper layer

Remembering again and again brings peace, and a shelter with nothing above it.

Simar simar simar sukh paa-i-aa — remembering, remembering, remembering, I found peace. Said three times, it sounds like steady footsteps on a path you walk every day. Charan kamal rakh man maahee — keep the lotus feet in your mind, a picture of humble refuge. Taa kee saran pari-o naanak daas — Nanak, the servant, has come into the One's shelter. Jaa tay oopar ko naahee — there is no one above.

A Question to Sit With

What is a thought or place you return to that always steadies you?
