Since I met the compassionate, Holy Saints, my evil-mindedness has been driven far away. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

Saying Gobind, Gobind, Gobind, again and again, we become like the One we hold in mind.

Ever since I met the kind ones who love the One, the tangled, unkind thinking has drifted far away.

We slowly become what we keep in mind.
The deeper layer

We become like what we keep in mind.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. Gobind gobind gobind ma-ee — saying Gobind, Gobind, Gobind, we become like the One. Gobind is a name for the One who cares for the whole world. It is like a song you hum all day, until you are walking to its beat. Saying the Name works slowly like that, changing us from the inside. This is simran, remembering.

Then: durmat door bha-ee — since I met the kind, holy ones, durmat has gone far away. Durmat means tangled, unkind thinking. Time near holy people helps it drift off.

A Question to Sit With

If you become what you dwell on, what do you want to dwell on?
