ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
gur pooraa vadbhaagee paa-ee-ai.
By great good fortune, the Perfect Guru is found.
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੧॥
mil saaDhoo har naam Dhi-aa-ee-ai. ||1||

Gur pooraa vadbhaagee paa-ee-ai — the perfect Guru is found by great fortune, which is to say by grace, not by clever arranging. Mil saadhoo har naam dhi-aa-ee-ai — meeting holy people, one holds the Name. Meeting and remembering arrive together: the gift of the Guru opens into shared practice.
