Bilaaval, Fifth Mehl:
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਰਿਦੇ ਮਹਿ ਚੀਨਾ ॥
gur kaa sabad riday meh cheenaa.
I contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad within my heart;
ਸਗਲ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਸੀਨਾ ॥੧॥
sagal manorath pooran aaseenaa. ||1||
all my hopes and desires are fulfilled. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I hold the Word of the Guru in my heart, like a favorite tune playing low in the background all day.

And as I do, every hope my heart carries comes to fullness.

Keep the Guru's Word turning quietly inside, and your heart's hopes come to fullness.
The deeper layer

Gur kaa sabad riday meh cheenaa — the Word of the Guru is recognized and held within the heart. Sagal manorath pooran aaseenaa — all hopes and longings are fulfilled. The Shabad — the living teaching-word — is not merely heard once but kept turning inside, and it is that steady inward holding that ripens the heart's true hopes.

A Question to Sit With

Is there a good thought or saying you can keep playing low inside you all day?
