Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Nanak says: be kind to Your servant, and let me be humble enough to learn from holy people — as low and willing as the dust on the path they walk.
Held that gently, that openly, a person is set free.
Being humble enough to keep learning from the Guru's people is itself the door to freedom.
Jan naanak ka-o prabh kirpaa karee-ai — have mercy on the servant. Saadhoo dhoor milai nistaree-ai — obtaining the dust of the feet of holy people, one is freed. "Dust of the feet" is the deepest humility: openness to learn, the willingness to be a beginner. That willingness is itself the doorway to freedom.
A Question to Sit With
Who could you learn from if you let yourself be a beginner around them?
