You act, and incite others to act, and then deny it. The Lord is always with you; He sees and hears everything. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Why have you wandered off, lost like this?

You do things, you get others to do them, and then you deny it. The One is always with you, seeing and hearing everything.

You are never as alone — or as unseen — as forgetting makes you feel.
The deeper layer

The One is always near, so there is no need to wander lost.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the one the shabad turns on. Aisay kaahay bhool paray — why have you wandered off like this?

Karahi karaaveh mookar paavahi — you do things, you get others to do them, and then you say it wasn't you. Think of a broken vase, and everyone in the room saying, "Not me!"

Paykhat sunat sadaa sang haray — the One is always with you, seeing and hearing. This is not a threat, like a camera waiting to catch you. It is an invitation to be honest, because the One who sees you also loves you.

A Question to Sit With

Why is it easier to be honest when you remember you are not alone?
