God Himself, the Lord and Master, is Nanak's protector. What can any wretched person do to him? ||2||9||95||

In plain words

When someone loses sight of the One, ill-will pulls them off course, and quarreling with kind people only wears them out.

Nanak says: the One Himself, my Master, is my guardian — so what can anyone do to me?

When the One guards you, fear runs out of room.
The deeper layer

With the One as protector, there is nothing to fear.

Nindak parabhoo bhulaa-i-aa — the slanderer has forgotten God. Kaal nayrai aa-i-aa — his end draws near, and har jan si-o baad uthree-ai — he starts quarrelling with the Lord's humble people. Losing sight of the One pulls a person off course. Naanak kaa raakhaa aap parabh su-aamee — God, the Master, is Nanak's own protector. Ki-aa maanas bapuray karee-ai — what can any poor, helpless person do? Think of a little brother walking home next to his big sister; the kids on the corner simply stay quiet.

A Question to Sit With

What makes you feel safe from other people's meanness?
