Cutting it, it does not break, and releasing it, it does not let go. Such is the string the Lord has tied me with. ||1||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
I have fallen in love with my Beloved.
Try to cut it and it will not break; let go and it will not slip away. That is the string God has pulled tight around my heart.
The truest bonds are the ones that hold even when you tug at them.
Love for the One holds, whatever happens.
Moo laalan si-o preet banee -- love has formed with the Beloved. toree na tootai, chhoree na chhootai -- a bond that resists both cutting and letting go; khinch tanee -- pulled tight, a string held taut. A single unbreakable thread stands for a connection that does not depend on our mood.
A Question to Sit With
What is something in your life that would hold on to you even if you let go for a while?
