The fool does not understand the Creator Lord; instead, he thinks that he himself is the doer. ||1||

In plain words

When I forget the One, I feel poor and small inside, cut off from what could fill me.

I do not see the Maker behind it all. Instead, I start thinking I did everything all by myself.

Remembering the Maker makes you bigger, not smaller.
The deeper layer

Forgetting the One leaves us feeling poor and small inside.

The words are strong: so-ee maleen deen heen jis parabh bisraanaa. One who forgets God feels dirty, poor and low. That is about how the lost connection feels. It is never a judgment on anyone's worth.

The second line shows how it happens. Karnaihaar na boojh-ee, aap ganai: we do not see the Maker, and count ourselves as the only doer. That is ego, the "I did it all" feeling. Think of a kid who scores a goal and forgets the teammates who passed the ball. Ego here is a knot to loosen, not a crime to punish.

A Question to Sit With

When do you feel most connected to something larger than yourself?
