Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I turned in love to the perfect Guru, and the Guru met me with kindness.

A saint pointed out the way, and the old snare of fear that had me tangled just came loose.

A saint who shows the way can loosen what had you tangled.
The deeper layer

A saint showed the way, and the snare came loose.

Gur pooraa aaraadhi-aa ho-ay kirpaal — I turned in love to the perfect Guru, and the Guru became kind to me. Kirpaal means kind, merciful.

Maarag sant bataa-i-aa tootay jam jaal — a saint showed me the path, and the snare of death was cut. The jam jaal is that old net of fear. Think of being lost in a big mall until someone kindly walks you to the exit. The fear comes loose once you know the way.

A Question to Sit With

Who has pointed you toward a better way?
