In plain words

The One is high beyond measure, more than anyone could ever count, and every living being rests in its care.

Nanak says: I take shelter in God — and wherever I go, the One goes with me.

What holds all beings is right beside you, wherever you go.
The deeper layer

The One is beyond counting, and still right beside you.

The big picture: ooch apaar agnat har. The One is high, without end, beyond counting. Sabh jee-a jis haath: every living being rests in the One's hands.

The small comfort: naanak parabh sarnaagatee, Nanak takes shelter in the One. Jat kat mayrai saath: wherever I go, the One is with me. Think of a parent's love. It goes with you to school, even when the parent stays home. The One's care goes with you everywhere.

A Question to Sit With

When do you most feel you are not alone?
