Chanting the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe, the Messenger of Death runs far away. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Worship God with your whole mind and body, and join the Sangat.

When your mouth fills with praise, even the fear of death backs far away.

Praise sends even the biggest fear running.
The deeper layer

Praise makes fear run away.

Man tan parabh aaraadhee-ai: love the One with your mind and body. Mil saadh samaagai: join the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One.

Then uchrat gun gopaal jas: as we sing the goodness of Gopaal, the Keeper of the world. Door tay jam bhaagai: jam is the messenger of death, and he runs far away. So even the fear of death backs off. Think of a dark hallway that stops feeling scary the moment you start singing with a friend.

A Question to Sit With

What company makes it easier to remember what matters?
