No Obstacle Sticks

ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਕਿਛੁ ਬਿਘਨੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
sadaa sadaa har Dhi-aa-ee-ai kichh bighan na laagai.
Forever and ever, meditate on the Lord, and no obstacles will obstruct you.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹੀਐ ਭਇ ਦੁਸਮਨ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੨॥੩॥੬੭॥
naanak naam salaahee-ai bha-ay dusman bhaagai. ||2||3||67||
O Nanak, praising the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the fear of enemies runs away. ||2||3||67||

In plain words

Keep the One in mind always, and the things that would trip you up lose their grip.

Nanak says: praise the Naam, and even the fear of those who wish you harm loses its hold and slips away.

A heart full of praise gives trouble nothing to hold.
The deeper layer

Keep remembering, and fears and obstacles lose their grip.

Sadaa sadaa har Dhi-aa-ee-ai — keep the One in mind, always. Kichh bighan na laagai — and no obstacle will stick to you. A bighan is something that blocks your way. Think of a raincoat. The rain still falls, but it runs right off.

Naanak naam salaahee-ai — Nanak says, praise the Name. Bha-ay dusman bhaagai — and the fear of enemies runs away. When the heart is full of praise, even the fear of those who wish us harm slips away.

If someone is being unkind to you or hurting you, that is never something you have to accept. Telling a grown-up you trust is always the right thing to do.

A Question to Sit With

What fear loosens its grip when you focus on something good?
