The Divine Guru has built the City of Ramdaspur, the royal domain of the Lord. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

God, the Protector, has no limit, and serving Him is pure.

The Guru has built Ramdaspur, a city where the Lord rules.

Love for the One can build something you can live inside.
The deeper layer

The Guru built a whole city around love for the One.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the one the shabad turns on. Raakhanhaar apaar parabh — the One is a Protector without limit. Taa kee nirmal sayv — serving the One keeps the heart clean. Sayv means service, helping out with love.

Raam raaj raamdaas pur keenay gurdayv — the Guru built Ramdaspur, a city where the One's way rules. Ramdaspur is the city we now call Amritsar. It was raised as a home for this love, with remembering the One at its heart. Think of a family home built around the kitchen table, where everyone gathers.

A Question to Sit With

What kind of place would you build if it were made of what you love?
