There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.
My mind leans on You, my Beloved — my mind leans on You.
Every other clever plan comes to nothing, Beloved. You alone keep me safe.
This is the heart of the shabad: You are the One I lean on.
These lines are the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. The first line says it twice: mai man tayree tayk — "my mind leans on You." Saying something twice is how we show we mean it. It also fits the folk tune the shabad is sung to, called Yaanrhee-ay.
Avar si-aanpaa birthee-aa — "all other clever tricks are useless." Think of building a sandcastle with the smartest walls you can. The tide still comes in. Our own plans cannot keep us fully safe.
Raakhan ka-o tum ayk — "You alone are the One who protects." The whole shabad rests on this: handing our worries over.
What is a clever plan of yours that did not work out — and what got you through?
