ਮਾਤ ਗਰਭ ਮਹਿ ਹਾਥ ਦੇ ਰਾਖਿਆ ॥
maat garabh meh haath day raakhi-aa.
Extending His Hand, the Lord protected you in your mother's womb.

Renouncing the sublime essence of the Lord, you have tasted the fruit of poison. ||1||

In plain words

Before you ever took your first breath, before anyone could even see you, a hand was already holding you safe. You were cared for from the very start.

And yet it is so easy to walk right past the sweetest thing — the One — and go chasing after stuff that never nourishes. Gently: you can turn back toward what feeds you.

You were held safe before you could even ask — and you can always turn back toward what feeds you.
The deeper layer

Maat garabh meh haath day raakhi-aa — even before birth, a hand held and protected you. Grace comes first, before we could ever ask or earn it. You were cared for from the very start. Bikhi-aa fal chaakhi-aa — tasting a bitter fruit: walking past what nourishes for what does not. The door stays open to turn back.

A Question to Sit With

What in your life has been quietly taking care of you far longer than you noticed?
