The Treasure Of Every Good Thing

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਜਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
kaho naanak jo jan parabh bhaa-i-aa.
Says Nanak, that humble being who pleases God,
ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੧੫॥
gun niDhaan parabh tin hee paa-i-aa. ||4||10||15||
he alone finds God, the treasure of virtue. ||4||10||15||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Nanak says: the person whose heart moves in step with God is dear to God.

That person finds God, the treasure of every good quality.

A heart turned honestly toward the One finds the treasure of every good thing there is.
The deeper layer

The person in tune with the One finds every good thing at once.

Jo jan prabh bhaa-i-aa means the one who pleases the One. It does not mean a random favorite. It means someone whose heart moves in step with the One's flow.

Gun nidhaan prabh tin hee paa-i-aa — that person finds the One, the treasure-store of every good quality. The good you are looking for is not scattered in pieces to collect one by one. It is gathered together in the One, like a whole library in one room instead of pages blowing down the street.

A Question to Sit With

If goodness itself were a treasure, where do you think you would start digging for it?
