In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

The One I longed for has come close, and my mind sinks into peace.

When the Guru was pleased with me, I found what I was seeking, and now I get to live inside that love.

How lucky are the hearts that carry the Name shining on them like a jewel. Nanak says: the One is my beloved, my delight.

When what I longed for finally comes close, my whole mind rests.
The deeper layer

Mangal means the song of joy. The literal sayjai aa-i-aa (come to the bed) pictures the Beloved coming close. Gur tuThai: when the Guru is pleased, is gracious. Mastak maanaa: the jewel of the Name shining on the forehead. Sohaaganee — the happy soul-brides — are the joyful, blessed hearts. Guru Ram Das's signature fourfold Har rings through these lines.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you have hoped for that would make you feel at peace?
