You have not meditated and vibrated upon the Lord's Name; while you commit your sins of corruption in the night, the light of day dawns upon you. ||1||Pause||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Body, wealth and youth keep slipping by.
You never made time to sing the Naam; busy with harmful things, you let the night run into morning.
Time keeps moving, so the moment to do the good thing is this one.
Time keeps moving, and that makes this moment precious.
Tan Dhan joban chalat ga-i-aa — body, wealth and youth all move on. Raam naam kaa bhajan na keeno — the Name of the One goes unsung while the night of careless habits runs on into morning. Think of staying up scrolling until the sky turns light.
This is the Rahao, the pause at the centre of the shabad. The night ends and a new day dawns, and the new day is an invitation: remember now.
A Question to Sit With
What is one good thing you could do now instead of putting off?
