In plain words

Here is a surprising path to happiness: carry water for the Lord's servant, wave the fan, grind the grain, with a glad heart.

And power, property, being the boss? Throw them in the fire — they weigh more than they are worth.

Happiness grows from humble help, more than from being in charge.
The deeper layer

Humble service brings joy. Paanee pakhaa pees daas kai — carry water for the Lord's servant, wave a fan for him, grind his grain. These were the plainest chores in an old Indian home. Tab hohi nihaal — then you will be happy.

Next comes the surprising part. Raaj milakh sikdaaree-aa agnee meh jaal — power, property and being the boss: let them go into the fire.

Think of the kid who stays after the class party to help stack chairs. Nobody hands out a prize for it. Yet that kid often walks home the happiest. The world puts ruling over others at the top. This verse turns that upside down and puts serving first.

A Question to Sit With

What is a small, humble task that makes you feel good to do?
