This is the distinctive sign - listen, O Siblings of Destiny: he collapses like a wall of sand. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Ill-will crumbles away, just like this.

Listen, brothers and sisters, here is the sign: it falls like a wall built of dry, salty sand.

Meanness tends to collapse under its own weight.
The deeper layer

Ill-will falls apart on its own.

This is the Rahao, the pause line at the centre of the shabad. Nindak aisay hee jhar paree-ai — the slanderer crumbles away, just like that. Ji-o kaalar bheet giree-ai — like a wall of kaalar, salty sandy soil, that cannot hold together. Think of a sandcastle once the tide comes in. Nobody has to knock it down. This is a plain fact about how things work, with no gloating over any person.

A Question to Sit With

Why do you think unkindness is so hard to keep going?
