Bilaaval, Fifth Mehl:
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਭਏ ਦੇਖਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਰਤਾਪ ॥
jee-a jant suparsan bha-ay daykh parabh partaap.
All beings and creatures are totally pleased, gazing on God's glorious radiance.
ਕਰਜੁ ਉਤਾਰਿਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਕਰਿ ਆਹਰੁ ਆਪ ॥੧॥
karaj utaari-aa satguroo kar aahar aap. ||1||
The True Guru has paid off my debt; He Himself did it. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

All beings are glad when they see the One's shining greatness.

The Guru paid off the debt I owed — the Guru did it all, on my behalf.

Sometimes the biggest debts are cleared by a kindness you did not earn.
The deeper layer

Jee-a jant suparsan bha-ay, daykh prabh partaap — beings gladdened by the One's radiance; karaj utaari-aa satguroo, kar aahar aap — the debt cleared by grace, not by our own repaying. Kindness that clears what we could not.

A Question to Sit With

Has someone ever done something generous for you that you could never repay?
