Bilaaval, Third Mehl:
saahib tay sayvak sayv saahib tay ki-aa ko kahai bahaanaa.
My Lord and Master has made me His servant, and blessed me with His service; how can anyone argue about this?
aisaa ik tayraa khayl bani-aa hai sabh meh ayk samaanaa. ||1||
Such is Your play, One and Only Lord; You are the One, contained among all. ||1||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
You are the one who made me someone who serves, and even the chance to serve was Your gift. So what could I possibly argue about? There is nothing to claim as mine.
This is Your wonderful play: the same One, quietly present inside everyone.
Even your ability to do good is a gift — so there is nothing left to boast about.
Khayl (play) frames creation as the One's game, not a courtroom. Sabh meh ayk samaanaa — one contained among all — is the Ik Onkar seeing that makes boasting meaningless: whose achievement, if it is all the One?
A Question to Sit With
What is something you are good at that you did not give yourself?
