Bilaaval, Fifth Mehl:
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਅਰਪਉ ਸਭੁ ਅਪਨਾ ॥
tan man Dhan arpa-o sabh apnaa.
Body, mind, wealth and everything, I surrender to my Lord.
ਕਵਨ ਸੁ ਮਤਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਨਾ ॥੧॥
kavan so mat jit har har japnaa. ||1||
What is that wisdom, by which I may come to chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har? ||1||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Here it is — all of it: my body, my mind, everything I own — I place it in Your hands, holding nothing back.
And I have one question: what is the wisdom that lets me keep saying the Naam? Teach me that.
Seeking starts by opening your hands — then asking, honestly, how to hold the One in mind.
Tan man dhan arpa-o sabh apnaa — body, mind, and wealth all offered: the surrender of the self's "mine." Then an honest question: kavan so mat jit har har japnaa — what is the wisdom by which one comes to hold the Name? The asking itself is part of the turning.
A Question to Sit With
If you could ask for one kind of understanding, what would you most want to learn?
