The Lord is found only through this human incarnation. This is the time to contemplate the Lord.
gurmukh mil sohaaganee rang ho-ay ghanayraa raam.
As Gurmukhs, the happy soul-brides meet Him, and their love for Him is abundant.
jin maanas janam na paa-i-aa tinH bhaag mandayraa raam.
Those who have not attained human incarnation, are cursed by evil destiny.
har har har har raakh parabh naanak jan tayraa raam. ||3||
O Lord, God, Har, Har, Har, Har, save Nanak; he is Your humble servant. ||3||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
This human life is the very chance to know the One — this is the time.
Following the Guru, hearts meet the One and their love grows huge and green.
This life is precious — a rare doorway. Nanak says: keep me, One, I am yours.
This life is the rare doorway — the chance to know what is real.
Maanas janam — human birth as the opportunity to know the One. The literal line speaks of an unlucky destiny for those who miss it; the stress falls on how precious the chance is. Raavan vayraa: the time to meet and delight in the One. The closing prayer — raakh prabh, jan tayraa — is simply: keep me, I am yours.
